ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Shalini Jain — a photographer with a deep love for rhythm, movement, and the magical world of performance. Specialising in dance and music photography, I’ve had the honour of working with legendary maestros as well as the vibrant talents of the new generation. Whether I’m capturing a precise mudra mid-air or the quiet emotion behind a raga, I strive to tell a story in every frame — one that moves with the music and breathes with the perfomer.
Over the years, I’ve been told my sense of timing and aesthetic sensitivity are what make my work stand out. With time, I’ve come to understand that my work is guided as much by feel as by form — a quiet instinct for rhythm, expression, and mood. Each image is a way of holding on to that fleeting emotion, of letting a moment linger just a little longer.

While dance and music remain my first love, my lens also finds joy in telling stories through food, soulful portraits (of both humans and dogs!), and thoughtfully styled product photography — especially textiles like sarees and intricate jewellery. I enjoy switching between the rhythm of a live performance and the quiet poetry of a still life shoot — both require intuition, detail, and heart.

When I’m not behind the lens, you’ll most likely find me traveling to explore local culture and cuisine, often with a camera in hand to document the journey. I also enjoy reading, attending kutcheris, and nurturing my connection to the art world by learning music myself. These passions constantly inspire my work and keep my creative spirit grounded.

Thanks for stopping by — I hope you enjoy exploring the stories I’ve had the joy of capturing.
